Day 4: A Sense of Community

Well, we are back from a lengthy Christmas break and all aspects of school life are back in full swing especially our dining hall. The dining hall staff is responsible for serving 3 meals per day on Mon-Thurs and breakfast and lunch on Friday.  This may not sound particularly special until one realizes that we are a day school and that families will often eat meals together at breakfast and dinner and teacher, advisors, and coaches will often dine with their students/advisees/players. Also, as a faculty member, our families are allowed to join us for breakfast and dinner.
Below are 2 of the many staff members that work to keep the dining hall humming and for the sense of community they help instill.   Thank you!

  1. Hiram, that's such an interesting concept. Does it happen anywhere else? Why would families eat together at school? It certainly would build community, but I'm not sure it would work in our schools. Then again.... Good luck with the blog! I'm not doing a daily post this year, just when I feel like it.

  2. Hiram - Great pic...and your post reminds me of the community surrounding a meal from when I worked in a boarding school. Surprised you all do it at a day school.

  3. Tania,

    Happy New Year!

Thank you for your comment. I'm not aware of any other day schools that offer this benefit/opportunity to develop a sense of community. It's the best of both worlds-boarding/day school.

As for the blog, I'm feeling quite energized by its potential and I thoroughly enjoy seeing other bloggers images. I have @langwitches to thank for the inspiration.

  4. Jason,

It's a wonderful opportunity and a great way to start the day. It's also one of the many things that makes St. Christopher's such a special place.
